Joule supports intent-driven work across business functions, turning transactional tasks into connected workflows, while Joule Agents take action, automate tasks and run workflows end to end, drawing on the SAP Knowledge Graph and SAP Business Data Cloud. Capabilities span finance, supply chain, procurement, HR and customer experience, with enterprise-grade security, GDPR-aligned data processing and tenant-level data isolation. Access is organized in layers: Base AI is included with SAP cloud subscriptions at no extra cost, while Premium AI capabilities are consumed through AI Units.

Joule is SAP's AI assistant that enables intent-driven work across business functions by transforming transactional tasks into connected workflows. It is grounded in SAP's harmonized data and trusted architecture.
SAP positions Joule as offering deep enterprise integration, business-context awareness and embedded functionality across SAP's cloud portfolio. It provides role-specific assistance with enterprise-grade security and GDPR compliance while maintaining data isolation within customer SAP tenancies.
SAP applies data masking and pseudonymization, keeps customer data within the customer's own SAP tenancy with tenant-level isolation, and stores no customer data within Joule. Processing follows GDPR requirements and SAP's data protection policy.
Customers with existing SAP cloud subscriptions can activate Joule base for free. SAP also offers an official learning journey covering prerequisites, provisioning, configuration, security and activation.
Joule Agents are ready-to-use AI agents that support decision support and task automation for non-deterministic workflows. They select from tools such as Joule skills, other agents and third-party applications, then reason on results to make recommendations.
AI Units are SAP's single virtual currency for accessing and running Premium AI capabilities, purchased annually via SKU 8019164. They sit in one shared pool and are consumed only when Premium AI actively performs work; unused units expire after 12 months.
All SAP-delivered autonomous enterprise agents in 2026 are priced at 0.02 AI Units per agent action. A task may require multiple actions, and no AI Units are consumed when an agent is not running.
Each assigned user is charged 35 AI Units per month, including a pooled allowance of 22,900 requests per user per month. Requests beyond the pooled allowance are billed at 2 AI Units per 1,000 requests.
Base AI is included with SAP cloud subscriptions at no extra cost. Premium AI is consumed through AI Units purchased annually (SKU 8019164); unused AI Units expire after 12 months. Agent actions are priced at 0.02 AI Units per action.
